-Hi Debbie & Rich, I would like to start with some basic information. Where abouts is scoot69 located and how long have you been open for?
Scoot69 is a family run freestyle stunt scooter shop, the business was started in October 2011 by husband and wife team, Debbie & Rich. They have 4 children: Nina, Ashton, Megan & Chelsea.
-Interesting name for a name, how did it come about?
The name scoot69 came from the fact that we started in the bike shop slam69 which was originally named after the music group sham69, it just seemed to stand out and it definately catches people eye! lol
-Please tell us a little history behind the shop, how did you get to where you are now?
Starting off as a small shop in the corner of Richards parents bike shop, they had no idea of the phenomenon Scoot69 was to become!
After just six short weeks Scoot69 became so popular that it had to move to its own premises in Quedgeley, Gloucester. It now had a huge following of scooter riders and customers were coming thick and fast to purchase their scooters and parts, and to have repairs done and parts fitted by Rich who is a highly skilled mechanic. After a few weeks of being in Quedgeley they took on three members of staff, Dan, Harry and Jack who have become an invaluable part of the scoot69 team.
After a few months the shop and workshop became so busy that more space was needed and another unit was opened as the “Scoot69 workshop” where all repairs are done, also new parts are fitted and custom builds are built.
Then in October 2012 the Lydney branch was opened as more and more people were asking for Scoot69 to expand, again this shop proved to be a huge hit with customers and the eldest daughter Nina took over the running of this branch with the help of her partner Zane. All of Richard and Debbies children have played a part in the success of the business with Ashton, Megan and even 9 year old Chelsea helping out. So it really is a family business!!
-How big is your team of riders and who is out there right now repping scoot69?
During 2012 with Scoot69 becoming such a success they had lots of riders wanting to gain sponsorship from them so they decided to sponsor their first rider, a young lad from Cam called Liam Witchard, he was an amzing scooter rider and all the local kids looked up to him, after that they decided to sponsor a whole team of kids so Scoot69 now have a Pro, Flow and Girls team…….
Scoot69 Pro Team:
Scoot69 Flow Team:
Scoot69 Girls Team:
The whole team is fantastic and extremely dedicated, they all do their best to rep us, watch out for callum edge, he may be young but as he gets older he is set to take the scooter scene by storm!
-2012 was a brilliant year for scooting but what are your plans for 2013?
We are hoping that 2013 is also going to be a great year for scootering and our aim is to get our riders out there promoting the sport, we are attending scootfest and will be doing lots of public skatepark visits across the country to encourage kids to continue riding.
-What excited you in scooting ?
The fact that scooting gets kids out and about, excersing, getting fresh air and interacting with others is a big excitement for us, the sport is exciting to watch as the tricks that the riders perform are sometimes breathtaking and always very skilled, its a great sport to be involved in.
-Thanks for your time guys, any final words or shout outs?
we would like to thank the continued support of our customers as without them we would be nothing. Also a massive thank you to our dedicated team of riders and staff, you are brilliant.
